Missing "Recent Projects" in Visual Studio 2005 (and probably 2008 as well)

Today, my friend Francis was missing his "Recent Projects List" (as well as his "Recent Files List") in is Visual Studio 2005 IDE. He even completely un-install and re-install VS 2005 with no luck. The ProjectMRUList key was still not filled.

We tried changing many options in VS IDE, resetting the dev environment, ... everything we could found on the web until I found this KB article: The "Most recently used" list is missing from the File menu, and the "Recently used file list" option is unavailable in Office XP and in Office 2003 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/284896).

In short, the registry key
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoRecentDocsHistory had been created and set to the DWORD value of 1 which stops Recent File lists in MS Office (and VIsual Studio).
